Accepted Items

The City of Plano accepts the following items for recycling:

All items should be clean, dry and placed loosely in your recycling cart.

  • Aluminum, tin and steel cans
  • Chipboard/boxboard (cereal and shoe boxes)
  • Glass jars and bottles
  • Junk mail, mixed office paper, school papers and non-metallic paper gift wrap (larger than a credit card)
  • Newspaper, magazines and catalogs
  • Paper grocery bags
  • Phone books
  • Plastic bottles, jugs and containers stamped 1-7. Lids are acceptable. No Styrofoam, please!
  • Shredded paper in a sealed clear plastic bag
  • Small corrugated cardboard boxes
  • Large cardboard boxes should be emptied (free of plastic, Styrofoam, trash, etc.), flattened and placed out for collection with your yard trimmings
  • Wax coated cartons

Items NOT accepted in your recycling cart:

  • Landscape waste (grass clippings and tree limbs)
  • Aerosol cans
  • Adult and baby diapers
  • Aluminum foil
  • Batteries
  • CDs / CVDs
  • Ceramics (dishes, drinking glasses and vases)
  • Facial or toilet tissue
  • Light bulbs/fluorescent tubes
  • Metallic and cellophane gift wrap
  • Mirrors
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic bags (return to the grocery store)
  • Plastic containers used for motor oil, antifreeze or other hazardous materials
  • Plastic wrap and plastic toys
  • Self-sticking notes (due to the glue)
  • Styrofoam
  • Trash bags
  • Wire hangers
  • Clothing or shoes
