COUNCIL SERVICE
Shep Stahel has served on the Plano City Council from District 1 since October, 1999. He had prior experience as Chairman of the Plano Parks & Recreation Board, Planning & Zoning Commission, Horizon Master Plan Committee, Rapid Transit Advisory Board Library Foundation Board, and Homeowner Council.. He is a graduate of Leadership Plano, and has received several awards for excellence in city planning.
MILITARY SERVICE
He graduated from the Tulane University Business School in New Orleans, Louisiana, then served in the Navy on ships, including duty as executive officer of an amphibious ship involved in the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. He transferred to the Naval Reserve in 1963, and retired in 1989 with the rank of Captain.
EMPLOYMENT
He has been with the IBM Corp, since 1963. He has worked in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Princeton, New Jersey and Buffalo, New York, in staff and management and is currently business manager for the IBM legal office in Dallas, Texas that is responsible for twenty states. He moved to Plano in 1978, and liked it so much he decided to stay.
COUNCIL LIAISON
Shep is currently Council Liaison to the Parks & Recreation Planning Board, Transition & Revitalization Committee, Tax Increment Financing Board #2 (downtown area), Public Art Committee and Collin County Community College Board of Trustees.
PERSONAL
He is married to the former JoeAnn Womack of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They have three adult children and seven young grand children.
