Help Increase the Number of Trees in Plano

Plano Tree Canopy Program

Live Green in Plano, the Texas Tree Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation are partnering to increase the tree canopy in Plano’s 75025 zip code by giving away trees for homeowners to plant in their yards.

Qualified, interested residents must register online to reserve their tree. There are six species from which to choose. All are native or well-adapted species in 5 gallon containers, and range from small to large size at maturity.  A unique Arbor Day Foundation online mapping program allows residents to see an aerial view of their home and property, select a planting location and choose a tree species. The tool then gives feedback regarding their choices.

In addition to beautifying our City and providing habitat for wildlife, trees help improve air quality, reduce erosion, filter stormwater and save energy, resulting in lower utility bills for residents. Plano’s Urban Forestry Master Plan indicated that the 75025 zip code significantly lacks optimal tree canopy coverage as compared to other parts of Plano.  If you don’t live in 75025, follow the Live Green in Plano Facebook page for possible expansion of this program in the future.

Trees are limited; online pre-reservations are required and reserved trees must be planted at the qualifying 75025 location.  All reserved trees must be picked up by residents on Saturday, February 10, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Russell Creek Athletic Fields located at 3500 McDermott Rd. in Plano.  All trees not picked up by noon will be released to other residents.  For more information or to make a reservation go to  Connect with Live Green in Plano on Facebook for up to the minute information.
