If you enjoy working outdoors, sharing your passion for sustainable living, are interested in learning about composting, and have at least 20 hours of time to donate to your community, we invite you to join our Master Composter Team.
In contrast to our 2-hour Basics of Composting workshop, Master Composter Training is a 20-hour intensive course. It teaches the science and methods of composting with the intention of empowering you to teach others that healthy plants start with healthy soil, and healthy soil begins with compost that can be made in one’s own backyard – for free. The training is held over four sessions with a fifth, optional field trip to a regional composting facility.Upon completion of the course, Master Composters can choose from a variety of volunteer opportunities including teaching elementary students to love and care for wiggly composting worms, answering composting questions at events such as the annual Compost Fair or the Rain Barrel & Compost Bin sale. Some volunteers turn the compost piles at our community demonstration site, help maintain our teaching gardens, or give talks about composting to local organizations. Join us! You’ll build friendships and help build a healthy environment and community. For more information about the Master Composter Training call 972-769-4228 or register online. For introduction to composting and a preview of what this free learning series offers, visit our online training modules at plano.gov/modules and choose the Backyard Composting or Food Waste Composting videos. This course is offered once a year. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Reserve your seat online or call 972-769-4228.
