Oak Point Recreation Center re-opens Jan. 20

Join us for an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We are excited to announce that Oak Point Recreation Center is set to re-open to the public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20! The opening will also help kick off Plano Parks and Recreation’s year-long celebration in 2018 to mark its 50th anniversary.

The facility has been closed since February 2017 to undergo its first major renovation. The project included aesthetic improvements, such as fresh paint, new flooring and new fixtures, as well as physical changes like the creation of additional classroom space and a party room.

Perhaps the most anticipated improvement to Oak Point Recreation Center is its new weight room addition. The new weight room, which is visible from Spring Creek Parkway, offers cardio equipment, stationary weight machines and a dedicated free weight room. Its floor-to-ceiling windows also allow for ample amount of natural light as well as views of nearby Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve.

Patrons will also appreciate the updated reception area and the transformation of the existing locker rooms. The locker room updates include new tile, flooring, fixtures, and a new layout, creating a better flow for all. The center’s 50-meter, Olympic-size indoor pool received a new slide as well as new pumps and filters, and the pool’s deck has been resurfaced.

Similar open house events are scheduled at each of the city’s recreation centers throughout the year to mark the Plano Parks and Recreation Department’s 50th anniversary. The celebration culminates in October with a birthday bash at Oak Point Park Nature & Retreat Center, followed by a community concert at Oak Point Amphitheater. Stay tuned and visit our 50th Anniversary page for more details.
