Recycling Education Class Goes Beyond the Basics

Recycling 102

Throughout Plano, many people recycle at home and at work. However, most are unaware of the role they play in preserving the integrity of the downstream recycling market.

To improve understanding and increase participation, Live Green in Plano (LGIP) is offering a new class aimed at educating Plano residents about the process, benefits and best practices for effective recycling.

During this free, two-hour course, attendees will learn how much trash Plano produces as compared with the amount that is recycled, where the trash goes, what items can be recycled in Plano and why the recycling process is a better choice, financially and for the environment. In addition, attendees will learn how the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) receives and processes the materials received from home, office and public recycle bins, and how they separate and prepare those materials for marketing to end-users and manufacturers.

The course will be held Wednesday, February 28, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., at the Environmental Education Center located near Coit and W. Plano Parkway. Register online or call 972-769-4130.
