New Year's Resolutions for your Pet

Owner and Pet High Five Each Other

Have you thought about changes to make in your pet's life in 2019?

You might have made some resolutions for 2019, but did you include your pet?

Here's a few ideas to get you started:

Make sure your Plano pet is registered with the Plano Animal Shelter

Not only is registering your pet a law, but it also helps you get your furry friend back to you quick if they escape. Find more information on registering your pet.

Measure your pet's food

By measuring your pet's food, you'll track their eating and will be able to adjust it if you're recommended to by your vet. If you don't measure your pet's food, they're likely overeating. For feeding guidelines, a good place to start is on the bag of your pet's food. It's also a good idea to run the amount by your vet.

Go for a walk

You and your pet both benefit from taking a stroll. Get some steps in, enjoy the fresh air and your pup will love exploring on a walk.

Make an appointment with your vet

Do you take your pet in for annual visits? Just like it's important for you, your pet needs to see a vet at least once a year. They'll stay up-to-date on shots and this will give your vet the time to inform you of any changes you should make to your pet's life.

Brush your pet's teeth

It may sound strange, but oral hygiene is very important in your pet's life. By tackling tartar and plaque, you'll increase your pet's health and avoid expensive dental procedures.

These are a few tips to consider adding to your pet's life this year. Looking for a new furry friend? Stop by the Plano Animal Shelter anytime during our regular hours (9-6 Mon-Fri, 10-4 Sat-Sun). Animal visits end 15 minutes before closing.
