The world’s longest-living people reside in places that encourage natural movement, effective stress management, and socialization.
Unfortunately, new threats and challenges to America’s healthy living status continue to emerge. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) encourages communities to work together to reverse this trend to ensure Americans live longer and healthier lives.
Here in Plano, we have five quality recreation centers, a tennis center, two golf courses, an extensive trail system, world-class athletic facilities and many other amenities that provide places for people to keep moving. Research has also shown that longevity is related to an individual’s ability to “down shift,” as well as maintain healthy social outlets. Both are essential for emotional and spiritual well-being.
How you can get moving in JulyAs we enter National Park and Recreation Month, July is the perfect time to experience all the ways parks and recreation can transform our daily lives. We encourage all residents to share their memories with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by using #PlayInPlano and #GameOnJuly. Our free and affordable activity calendar is a great way to discover the many ways in which you can take part in the celebration. The calendar features something for people of all ages and abilities, including kayaking, dance nights, geocaching and more. These activities are intended to help Plano residents enjoy the true quality of life found through daily exercise at little or no cost.
If you are looking for new ways to combat stress and anxiety, check out our many yoga offerings by exploring Recreation Online. We also offer a Mindfulness & Sound Meditation class, which provides an evening of relaxation while connecting with the sounds of nature. You may simply choose to take an evening walk on any section of our 83 miles of trails, or enjoy the peacefulness of nature in one of our 85 park sites.
In terms of socialization, our recreational facilities are communities within themselves, offering unique ways to engage with people from different cultures and backgrounds. For many patrons, these centers provide a sense of belonging outside of the digital world. If you are not a member, stop by any of our facilities for a tour. Affordable membership packages are available for individuals and families.
