The Sustainability & Environmental Services Department is responsible for developing and implementing sustainability programs and practices targeted at city departments, employees, the business community and the general public. The department also consists of three divisions:

Environmental Waste Services Division provides three separate services to Plano residents, schools and commercial businesses.

Residential Collections
Provides the collection of garbage, yard trimmings, recycling, household chemicals, and bulky waste from residential customers, and collects litter from medians and rights-of-way. |

Customer Service
Assists residential customers with collection issues and questions and provides information about all services and programs offered by the Sustainability & Environmental Services Department. |

Commercial Recycling
Promotes, educates and involves commercial customers in waste reduction and recycling programs through waste audits, technical assistance, training, and workshops. Commercial Recycling also operates an organic collections program and coordinates the City's commercial waste hauling contract with Allied Waste Services. |

Environmental Education & Community Outreach Division educates and involves residents of all ages in activities promoting beautification, environmental stewardship and waste diversion including recycling, composting, household chemicals, litter reduction, electronic recycling, water conservation, energy conservation and air quality.

Compost Operations & Marketing Division is responsible for operating the North Texas Municipal Water District Regional Composting Facilities, marketing the finished Texas Pure products, and educating the public about the use and benefits of compost.
