Upon entering a plea of "guilty" or " no contest", the Judge will accept the plea and enter a Judgment with the Fine and State Costs due immediately.
If you need to request an extension to pay the fine, you may do so either in person or in writing. However, you MUST understand that the Judge will enter the Judgment which is due immediately unless you have completed an Application for Extension to Pay the Fine and it has been approved. You will be required to do the following:
-
Complete an Application for Payment (employment and financial information will be required and verified);
- Submit proof of residency (i.e. a utility bill or mortgage/rent statement);
If you appear in person to enter a plea and request an extension, you will be required to complete the application at that time. It will be verified to determine eligibility.
If you enter a plea by mail, you may print off the application form and complete it to send with your plea. The application will be verified and you will be notified if an extension is granted. Completing the application and sending it along with your plea may avoid a capias profine warrant from being processed; whereas, if you wait to receive an application in the mail from the Court, a warrant may be issued during the time it takes to receive, complete and mail the application back to the Court.
Please Note:
Application – If the information provided on the Application for Extension to Pay the Fine is false or cannot be verified, you will not qualify for another extension.
If the fine is not paid within 30 days of the Judgment date, a State mandated $25.00 Time Payment Fee will be assessed as well.
Failure to pay the State Costs and Fine will result in a Capias Profine Warrant issued for your arrest with the additional costs attached thereto (i.e. $50.00 Warrant Fee)
Effective August 1, 2009, all credit card and debit card payments made either in person or through the Online Citation Payment System, will incur a 3.5% processing fee.
