City Registration Information
Starting January 1, 2011 registrations not valid for 13 months or longer will be charged a late fee of $10.00.

The City of Plano’s ordinances require that all dogs, cats, and ferrets be registered with the city on an annual basis.  In order to make this process as simple as possible for pet owners, Plano Animal Services has partnered with PetData, the nation’s only full-service animal registration provider, and this collaboration makes registering your pet online, by mail, or in person, easier than ever!

To license online, go to www.PetData.com and select Plano from the customer service drop-down menu. Then click on ‘Online Licensing’ on the upper left side of the screen.  You can license multiple pets at the same time, and easily upload any required documents.  All major credit cards are accepted, and a small convenience fee will apply per transaction.

To register by mail, simply mail a copy of your dog’s current rabies certificate and any other applicable documentation, along with your check payable to the City of Plano to:

The City of Plano encourages spaying and neutering. Registration fees for sterilized pets are discounted to $10 for one year and registrations for unsterilized pets are $30.  A rabies vaccination certificate including vaccination and expiration dates is required to obtain a registration and proof of sterilization is required for the discounted rate to apply.

Registration fees for sterilized pets belonging to owners who are sixty (60) years of age or older or are receiving government assistance due to being considered low-income are further reduced to $5 per year.  To receive the discounted rate, proof of age and/or assistance must be provided, along with all of the documentation listed above.  Animals used by law enforcement agencies and certified assistance animals must also be registered, and the fees for these special animals are also discounted with proof of training.

Taking time to license your dog now could save you money in the future! Beginning January 1, 2011, there will be a $10 late fee charged for any pet that has not been registered within the past 13 months. In addition, currently registered pets receive a discount on their first impound fee if they are lost and picked up by Animal Services.

Purchasing a license and attaching it to your pet’s collar is one of the most important things you can do as a responsible pet owner.  Displaying a current license tag on your pet’s collar makes it easy for Animal Services Officers to quickly locate a lost pet’s owner and return them to their loving families; it could be your pet’s ticket home!
