Animal Bites to Humans

The Animal Services Division works diligently to prevent animal bites to humans. This is the main reason we try to impound any animal that does not appear to have an owner nearby. This site is geared towards informing the public as to the procedures we follow when a bite occurs and what actions we must take to insure that the animal does not have a communicable disease.

What to do in case of an animal bite:

  • Wash the bite area thoroughly with warm soapy water.
  • Seek medical attention or consult with your family physician immediately.
  • Contact Animal Services (972-769-4360) and report the incident as soon as possible (within 24 hours as per Texas State Law).
  • If the animal has no owner nearby, try to maintain contact either visually or by confining the animal until Animal Services has been called.
  • The animal MUST be quarantined for at least a ten (10) day period or appropriately tested as necessary.

The Mission of the City of Plano Animal Services Division is to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of animals and people in Plano, TX.
