Bill Services and Calculation

WHAT SERVICES ARE ON THE BILL AND HOW IS IT CALCULATED?

Services on the Bill

The main recurring charges that appear on the utility bill are water, sewer, refuse (garbage) and drainage. See "
Rate Tables " for the water and sewer rates.

Water

The City is divided into 20 billing cycles. Each billing cycle has it’s own dates for reading meters and billing accounts, and a unique due date for the bill. Due dates may vary up to five days. The water charge is based on actual usage. In order to encourage conservation, the per unit charge (unit = 1,000 gallons) increases at higher volumes of usage. There is a separate rate structure for winter and summer usage.

Sewer

The sewer charge is a per unit charge based on the meter size and the amount of water consumed. Sewer charges on residential accounts are billed based on the Winter Quarter Averaging Program .

Refuse Collection
(Garbage)

All residences in Plano are charged for refuse collection. Normally, this service is provided once each week. The City provides a 95 or 68 gallon garbage cart on wheels and a recycling bin. Grass clippings and other yard debris are picked up if bagged in recyclable paper bags available for purchase at the City of Plano Warehouse, 4100 W. Plano Parkway. Citizens are encouraged to mulch grass clippings and leave them on the lawn.

Drainage Fee

It is necessary to maintain and repair existing storm drainage systems and minimize natural stream erosion. The charge for this is passed on to customers and is based on square footage. The drainage fee is assessed as follows:

Monthly Residential Drainage Fee
Impervious Area (in square feet)      Monthly Fee
Less than 4,750                                   $2.25
4,750 to 6,450                                     $3.30
Greater than 6,450                               $4.25

Monthly Non-Residential Drainage Fee
Commercial drainage fee is assessed at $0.056 per one hundred square feet of total
impervious area.
