Tax Abatement

Plano is committed to a growth-oriented business environment and high quality lifestyle for its citizens. The city’s taxing entities offer an attractive incentive program designed to promote ongoing development for businesses of all types and sizes.
The City of Plano offers tax abatement for commercial or industrial new business construction, or facility expansion, as well as business personal property tax associated with real property. Tax abatement applies to the value of improvements made.

The City of Plano has awarded tax abatements to numerous companies. Many of them have significantly expanded since moving to Plano, further contributing to the city’s growth. Today, the City of Plano has a total of 88 reinvestment zones, which have produced $1.533 billion in real and business personal property improvements and created more than 43,000 new jobs.

Requests for tax abatement are made through the Joint Committee on Tax Abatement. The application for Tax Abatement can be downloaded from this website by clicking the “Application” button. We recommend you review the city’s Policy Statement for Tax Abatement prior to submitting an application. The policy provides the criteria for consideration and the procedures of the application process.
