Getting
around Plano by car is easy. The city’s north and south boundaries run
along State Highway 121 and State Highway 190, providing convenient
access to Interstates 635 and 35. The city’s eight main east and
west arteries cross U.S. Highway 75 (Central Expressway) and the Dallas
North Tollway, creating southbound access to downtown Dallas and
northbound access to Oklahoma via Highway 75 the Dallas North Tollway.
Access to Dallas/Ft. Worth International airport is only a 30-minute
drive. While there are several routes to the airport, the opening of
Highway 190 to Interstate 35 creates the most direct and efficient
route. Future development of Highway 190 to Interstate 635 will further
improve airport accessibility. Public transportation is
available through the city’s partnership with Dallas Area Rapid Transit
System (DART). DART provides local bus and light rail transportation
to/from Plano and around the Dallas metroplex. For Plano
businesses requiring containerized transportation, there are more than
60 motor freight carriers in the metroplex. Rail transportation is also
available, by Southern Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe
Railway.
