Plano CERT offers FREE Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) classes year round.
Our training fosters the spirit of neighbor-to-neighbor volunteer support and brings communities together for a common cause. It increases partnership between citizens, volunteers, community organizations, businesses, and the City in times of need.
CERT Basic Training Course
The eight week interactive training process involves both classroom and practical activities. Students attend weekly 3-hour classes on the following subjects:

- You are invited to attend any CERT Basic Training session that you feel the need to review.
- Would you like to earn Plano CERT Public Service Points? Volunteer as a victim for a CERT Basic Training Exercise!
Orientation
This class explains how the CERT program is implemented in the City of Plano.
Topics include:
- Program Purpose and Mission
- Standard Operation Procedures (SOP)
- Documentation
- Continued Membership Requirements
Additional Classes and Refresher Training
CERT members stay active through refresher courses, exercises, community activities, and team building. Classes are offered periodically throughout the year. See the Plano CERT schedule for upcoming classes.

- CERT Refresher

- Damage Assessment
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) / Incident Command System (ICS)
- Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

Safety is the first priority of the CERT Program
There are many hands-on activities based on class participation.
CERT Participants are expected to follow instructor directions, and:
Wear sturdy shoes
Wear comfortable weather appropriate clothing
Wear gloves, hard hats, and safety goggles when necessary and required.
**Gloves, hard hats, and safety goggles are included in the CERT Training back pack issued to all students.
