Community Emergency Response Team



Mission Statement

The City of Plano Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will serve as a preparedness, response, and recovery mechanism that shall promote proactive involvement of private citizens, business groups, civic organizations and schools in emergency management and homeland security activities as identified by the City of Plano.  

Program Vision

The City of Plano desires to challenge our residents to better prepare their neighborhoods and place of business for emergency or disaster situations. We also hope to identify citizen volunteers with credentials, special skills or subject matter expertise.  The skill sets will potentially be used in community preparedness, as well as in disaster response and recovery activities.

  • Inland Search and Rescue

  • Call Center Assistance
  • Donations Management
  • Points of Distribution (PODs)
  • Special Events
  • Emergency Operations Center functions
  • Mass Care
  • Access Control
  • Traffic Management
  • Search for missing persons
  • Shelter Management
  • Debris Removal
  • Door-to-Door notifications
  • Weather Spotting
  • Public Education
  • Welfare Checks
  • Participate in Disaster Exercises (Victims)





NOTE:
  The City of Plano CERTs are not self-deployed.  Missions will be assigned by the City of Plano Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), or other designated City staff identified by the DEMHS.
