To combat and react to terrorism the City of Plano needs to have accurate information and be prepared for emergencies on a basic level, but also have the ability to respond to a wide variety of threats. It is vital that you and your family remain calm and think objectively, be vigilant, and follow instructions from local officials.
If an act of Terrorism happens in Plano:
- Keep yourself calm.
- Be extremely alert and cautious. Know your surroundings and any changes that may have occurred to them. Keep an eye out for falling debris or anyone setting up for additional attacks.
- Follow all Plan-specific instructions provided by your local emergency personnel.
- Listen to local TV and radio for instructions and travel information.
Bomb threat:
- Immediately ask the caller any of the following questions to aid in getting any information on a possible attack:
- When is the bomb going to explode?
- Where is the bomb right now?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- What does the bomb look like?
- Why did you place the bomb?
- Where are you calling from?
- Write down the exactly what the caller said.
- Try your best to hear anything in the background that may be of assistance.
- Immediately call 9-1-1 after the call is finished; call from a landline and never use a cell phone to report a bomb threat.
Prevention:
A good general rule of combating terrorist acts is: If you see something; say something. No matter where you are; if there is behavior that is out of order notify authorities by calling 9-1-1 or our non-emergency phone number: (972) 424-5678.
