Transit Safety

Mass transit systems (i.e., DART) may be vulnerable to both accidents and terrorist incidents. City of Plano mass transit customers should be aware and vigilant. Be knowledgeable of where the stops are along the war so that if something does go wrong you have a general sense of where you are.

Travel Points:

  • Report any and all suspicious handbags, sacks, or containers; especially if they are left unattended and report them to the nearest transit employee immediately.

  • Be observant. Take a general mental inventory of fire extinguishers and exits and read posted safety instructions.

  • Always stay calm in an emergency situation. Hear, listen, and follow instructions given by transit employees or emergency responders.

  • If it is within your ability try and help those around you; especially those with disabilities and children.

  • Exit the train or subway if you are in absolute immediate danger or instructed to do so by an authority.

  • The information you receive from the train/bus operator is accurate and the best information you can have access to while on the bust/train due to the fact that they are in constant contact with control centers.

  • Cell phones have the ability to interfere with emergency personnel equipment; so only use them if absolutely necessary.
