Plano Hazard Overview

The City of Plano conducted an all-hazard assessment of potential vulnerabilities to our city that can be summarized into two different types of hazards: man-made and natural.

Natural hazards offer the most potential impact for Plano due to its geographical position.  Plano is located in a flood plain as well as a region that has become known as “tornado alley”; therefore prone to many different types of weather.

Man-Made disasters range from hazardous material spills to terrorist attacks; they can be both accidents and intentional, and our citizens need to be prepared for both.  For more information about how to prepare for both Natural and Man-Made disasters please visit our Emergency Preparedness page.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan link on the right provides information on how the City of Plano is mitigating hazard potential and reducing their ability to have a significant impact.  The Hazard Mitigation Plan is very large in file size and is available for download only in specific sections.

Please use the information provided in the menu to the right to understand risks and their corresponding likelihood to occur in the City of Plano.
