What it means to be GREEN:
To Live Green in Plano means to create a community in which:
- We protect our environment by conserving resources, minimizing waste and reducing toxic products and materials.
- We have healthy ecosystems and sustainable neighborhoods.
- We integrate environmental values into the economy and our everyday lives.
Sustainability is often defined as "to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs." The City of Plano offers a broad spectrum of programs and educational opportunities to residents interested in living green.

Texas will use approximately $23 million in federal stimulus funds for an upcoming mail-in rebate program for consumers who purchase certain energy-efficient household appliances. The mail-in rebates will apply to eligible appliances purchased between April 16 and April 25, 2010. The 10-day period will coincide with Earth Day. For additional information about this program, visit the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) Web site at http://www.seco.cpa.state.tx.us/arra/rebate.

The City of Plano has made a commitment to do our part to save energy and help protect the environment. Join us and take the ENERGY STAR Change a Light Pledge to change at least one light at home to an energy-efficient one, and help us reach our goal of 10,000! It's a small step that's already making a big difference.

Paper or Plastic? NEITHER
Did you know billions of plastic bags are littering our planet? Did you know it takes up to 1,000 years for a plastic bag to decompose? Did you know reusable shopping bags can be used over and over again. Next time you go shopping, take your reusable shopping bag in and use it to bag your items instead of plastic or paper bags.
