Environmental Community Awards

 

 

It's time to apply for our Environmental School Awards! Nominate your school for recognition of their outstanding environmental efforts over the 2011-12 school year!  Applications are due on May 25.

Environmental Community Awards

The annual Environmental Community Awards celebration recognizes outstanding environmental leadership and achievement by honoring businesses, non-profits, schools and individuals with the Environmental Star of Excellence award. Submitted projects, programs or service are judged from May to May and must positively benefit the Plano community and its environment. The award categories include the following:

2011 ECA Luncheon

Business

  Environmental Commitment - Recognizes a company's passion and commitment in implementing a diversion initiative which goes beyond impacting its immediate organization. 
  Green Building - Recognizes a building or facility that incorporates significant sustainable features. 
  Organic Recycling - Recognizes a company's efforts and results in participating in the City's organic recycling program which primarily collects and reuses food materials in developing Texas Pure Products.
  Single-Stream Recycling - Recognizes a company's efforts in a diversion program highlighting the collection of single-stream recyclables and detailing resulting benefits.

Community

These awards highlight and celebrate successful local projects and organizations. Projects should promote or incorporate one or more of the following practices:  waste minimization, recycling, composting, litter prevention, beautification, water conservation, energy conservation, air quality initiatives or other green practices. Award categories are specifically designed to recognize the following:

  Multi-family Communities 
  Non-profits (includes faith-based entities)
  Educational Institutions (any level)
  Neighborhood Group/Homeowner Association

Partnership

The Community Partnership Award recognizes an organiztion who has partnered with the City of Plano to accomplish an environmental objective which benefits the Plano community, or compels residents to take action to protect the environment in some way.

Individual

The Community Outreach Award honors an individual who has been instrumental in reaching out to the community to promote environmental and sustainability programs and/or educate residents about issues which impact environmental quality in Plano.  (These can be environmental initiatives independent of City of Plano programs. The nominee may have been involved in a number of different types of initiatives or only one.)

Nominations may come from third party, self nomination or a staff member in the
City of Plano's Sustainability & Environmental Services department.

Presentation of Awards

Applications will be reviewed immediately following the deadline.  Winning recipients will be notified by telephone prior to the awards banquet.  Awards will be presented at a luncheon in September.

Environmental School Awards

The City of Plano Environmental Education & Community Outreach Division promotes programs that educate and involve students in activities resulting in an increased awareness about and concern for our environment.  The Environmental School Awards are designed to recognize schools and school groups that make outstanding contributions towards involving Plano students in environmental activities and programs throughout the school year. 

These awards are open to all  PISD schools, regardless of location and grade level.

 Outstanding Composting Award
 Outstanding Environmental Awareness Group

Applications may be mailed or delivered to the following:

Deadline

Applications must be received in our office by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012 for Environmental School Awards or Friday, August 1, 2012 for ESOE Community Award – Educational Institutions.

Presentation of Awards
