Construction and Demolition Recycling is a relatively new field full of exciting opportunities for builders, contractors, and developers.  C&D Recycling has been very successful - in diverting large volumes of C&D debris from local landfills, in demonstrating environmental stewardship, and in saving considerable cost normally associated with project disposal.  Here in Plano, we pride ourselves on being pioneers and leaders for our surrounding communities.  Starting in 2004, we have been facilitating both builders and contractors in implementing C&D recycling programs – even minimizing their overall project debris volume.  We currently offer programs and services to assist builders in identifying the best recycling program for their project – including concrete, wood, brick, steel, metal, and even the traditional recyclables (glass, plastic, paper, aluminum, and cardboard).  We also provide on-site training and demonstrations, sample forms to help track the programs success, and marketing materials available in both English and Spanish. The City’s Green Building plan extends the C&D Recycling program to include the engineering and architectural phase of construction, allowing builders to incorporate even more environmental and sustainable design features into their projects to help achieve a cleaner, healthier Plano.  The Green Builders Program is anticipated to evolve through four separate phases over the coming years.  To learn more about the Green Builders Program or assist the Sustainability & Environmental Services Department through participating in focus group discussions, please contact Robert Smouse at (972) 769-4199 or roberts@plano.gov.
