The City of Plano Environmental Education & Community Outreach Division promotes programs that educate and involve students in activities resulting in an increased awareness and concern for our environment. The Environmental School Awards are designed to recognize schools and school groups that make outstanding contributions toward involving Plano students in environmental activities and programs throughout the school year.
These awards are open to all grade levels, with the exception of the Residential Recycling Incentive Program (RRIP), which is open only to Plano Independent School District (PISD) elementary schools located within Plano’s city limits, and the Secondary In-School Recycling Award, which is open only to PISD secondary schools.

- Outstanding Campus Beautification Award - Wilson Middle School
- Outstanding Composting Award - Daffron Elementary School
- Outstanding Environmental Awareness Group Award (for elementary) - Beverly Elementary School - (for secondary) - Wilson Middle School
- School Recycling Incentive Award - Elementary: 1st Place - Hunt, 2nd Place - Dooley, 3rd Place - Weatherford. Secondary: 1st Place - Bowman, 2nd Place - Wilson, 3rd Place - Armstrong
- Outstanding Single-Stream Recycling - Shepton High School
- Outstanding Organic Recycling - McCall Elementary
- Most Improved - Daffron Elementary
The Environmental Star of Excellence Awards celebrates the strides the City of Plano has made as a community over the last year in environmental initiatives and honors the people and community partners making a difference.
Presentation of Awards
Applications will be reviewed immediately following the due date. Winning recipients will be notified by telephone prior to the awards banquet. Awards will be presented at the Environmental Community Awards presentation on September 25, 2008 from 11:30am to 1:00pm at Collin College Conference Center.
