The City of Plano diverts 100 percent of its collected yard trimmings and corrugated cardboard from the landfill. Yard trimming is made up of grass clippings, brush, tree trimmings, and other yard debris. Plano residents place these materials in biodegradable bags, which are collected on their designated collection day by Environmental Waste Services crews. This material is processed at the Regional Composting Site north of McKinney and returned to our citizens as Texas Pure Compost, Topdressing, Soil Blend or Wood Mulch.
Biodegradable paper bags may be purchased at local retail stores. Bags may also be purchased at the following city locations:
City Warehouse 4100 W. Plano Parkway Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CLOSED SATURDAY & SUNDAY 20 bags $7.00 |
Custer Road Facility 9901 Custer Road Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m to 4:30 p.m. CLOSED SUNDAY 20 bags $7.50 |
Please adhere to the following instructions when placing your yard trimmings out for collection:
-
Place your yard trimmings at your collection point (street curb or alley) before 7:00 a.m. on your designated collection day to ensure pick-up.
-
Place paper lawn bags and stacks of cuttings at least two feet away from your recycling and/or refuse containers so they will not interfere with automated collection.
-
Place only organic materials (leaves, plant materials and/or grass clippings) in paper lawn bags weighing no more than 50 pounds. Trash or refuse will contaminate the compost process and may cause work-related injuries for our Environmental Waste Services crews.
-
Tree trimmings and brush piles may not exceed six feet in length, four feet in height and four feet in width. Please place these materials in neat, manageable piles for manual collection. It is not required to tie or bundle piles.
-
DO NOT PLACE SOD OR SOIL IN THE PAPER LAWN BAGS. Please call Environmental Waste Services Customer Service at (972) 769-4150 for specific instructions for collection of these items.
-
Small corrugated cardboard boxes must be flattened or broken down then placed loosely in your recycling container for collection. Large corrugated cardboard boxes should be flattened and placed out for collection with your yard trimmings.
-
Unpainted, unstained wooden fence panels and/or lumber can be collected for composting. Fence sections must not be larger that four feet by six feet for manual collection. Please remove any bolts, latches and/or hinges.
-
