Leave the Fireworks to the Professionals
Each July 4th,
thousands of people, most often children and teens, are injured while using
consumer fireworks. Despite the dangers
of fireworks, few people understand the associated risks—devastating burns,
other injuries, fires, and even death.
The Plano Fire Department and the National Fire Protection Association
in conjunction with the Alliance to Stop Consumer Fireworks urges the public to
avoid the use of consumer fireworks and instead to enjoy the displays of
fireworks conducted by trained professionals.
It is important for the citizens
of Plano to know that City ordinance states by law the possession, manufacture,
storage, sale, handling and use of fireworks is prohibited within the City of
Plano. Fireworks are defined as any
device for the purpose of producing a visible or an audible effect for
entertainment purposes that is activated by ignition with a match or other
heat-producing device.
The National Fire Protection
Association has a very informative Fireworks fact sheet on their website that
outlines and highlights the dangers of fireworks. Review it at http://www.nfpa.org/assets/files//PDF/fireworksfactsheet.pdf. The website also has video stories of people
who have learned the hard way about the dangers of consumer fireworks.
