General Information Station 1, located at 1901 Avenue K (adjoining Fire Administration), is an 11,077 square foot facility built in 1994. It has four apparatus bays and can accommodate up to 12 personnel. The station currently houses a paramedic engine company, a paramedic ladder truck, an ambulance and a demand brush truck. Station 1 maintains 34 personnel throughout its three shifts. | | A bit of the Plano Fire Department's history is also housed at Station One. Located in the front driveway of the station is the original fire bell used by the Volunteer Plano Fire Company. Purchased in May of 1897 by the volunteer fire fighters, the bell was hung on top of City Hall in July of 1897. The bell was the first fire alarm used in Plano and was operational until the late 1920s, when it was replaced by an electric siren. When the second Station One was built in 1966, the bell was hung there in honor of that first group of Plano fire fighters, the Volunteer Plano Fire Company. Upon completion of the current Station One, the bell was rededicated to the past, present, and future fire fighters of Plano. | | The Administration Building next to Station One houses the offices of the Fire Chief, three Division Chiefs, the Fire Marshal, and close to thirty staff members. Hanging in the Administration Building is a photo of the only fire fighter ever to lose his life while on duty in Plano. Clyde E. "Cotton" Landers was killed April 2, 1950, while fighting a house fire on Avenue H. Landers was a member of the Dallas Police Department and a member of the Plano Volunteer Fire Department. |
