How to get a card, types of cards, and where you may use your card
How do I get a library card?
Applications may be completed at the circulation desk at any of Plano's five libraries. Library users must be registered in order to borrow materials from the library and to access specific computer services. There are several types of cards available:
Patron Card
Any resident of the metroplex is eligible to register for a library card providing he/she can verify a current local address. You must present evidence of current local address such as driver's license or another document with your name and your current address. For example, a piece of mail such as a recent public utility bill, with typed or computer-generated address to your current address, printed checks, insurance cards, voter's registration card, or lease or purchase agreement. There is no charge for any library card regardless of city of residence.
If children are under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign their application and agree to take responsibility for all materials borrowed on the card.
Visitor Card
Visitor cards will be issued for library privileges requested by patrons age 18 and over who reside outside the library's service area and who are temporarily living and working in Plano. The patron's permanent address, local address, contact phone number, and driver's license must be provided before a temporary card will be issued. Visitors cards are valid for six months only.
Temporary Internet Card
