Harrington Library is a full service community library and provides reading materials, reference services, database searching capabilities, Internet access, and children’s and young adult programming activities.  Special collections include Spanish language materials and a New Adult Reader Collection.

The Federation of Church Women of Plano sponsored Plano’s first library beginning in 1955.  Gladys Harrington accepted the responsibility of setting up the lending library.  For nine years, with the help of volunteers, Gladys Harrington kept the Library operating.  In 1965, the City Council passed an ordinance establishing a municipal library.  With bond funds, the City built a 10,000 square foot library that opened June 2, 1969.  Due to her continued interest, devotion and dedicated service to the Library, the City Council named the new facility Gladys Harrington Public Library.  The library was completely renovated and expanded from 10,000 square feet to 30,000 and rededicated on August 14, 1994.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Library Program provided funding for the Harrington Computer Lab .  Computers in the lab are available for individual use during regular library hours except when classes are scheduled. For additional information call 972.941.7175.
