The W.O. Haggard, Jr. Library was dedicated on April 30, 1989, and was named in memory of W.O. Haggard, Jr., whose wife Merle Haggard, daughter Janna Bryan and son Rodney Haggard made the six-acre site available for the library. The Haggard family, whose forefather Clinton Shepard (C.S.) Haggard settled in Plano in 1856 at the age of 18, has been a major contributor through the years to the educational community of Plano. C.S. Haggard and his neighbors established a schoolhouse on Haggard property in 1858. He later contributed money to help establish Add Ran College which ultimately became Texas Christian University.   Designed by Hidell Architects, Haggard Library is a 40,000 square foot facility featuring sunken courtyards to provide north light on both the main floor and the lower level. When the library opened in 1989, the 20,000 square foot main floor accommodated the entire adult, children's, reference and periodical collections along with a program room that seated 100. In 1996, the 20,000 square foot lower level was finished and expanded the public services area which currently houses the adult reference and periodicals collections. In addition, the lower level is Home to the library administration offices and technical services.    The W.O. Haggard, Jr. Library recognizes the civic contribution of an outstanding Plano family and pays homage to a man who devoted himself to his family. Click the map to view it via Yahoo! Maps.
