Library Links with Seniors Awarded the Library Project of the Year for libraries serving over 12,000 by the Northeast Texas Library System

Joyce Baumbach, Director of the Plano Public Library System accepted a plaque on behalf of PPLS and the City of Plano. The plaque is on display at Schimelpfenig Library.
Senior citizens are taking a trip down memory lane through the Library Links with Seniors (LLS) program offered through the Plano Public Library System.
"The program is designed to stimulate thought processes by seniors sharing memories and experiences," said Susan Rhoads, library liaison. "Most of the seniors do not know other people within care homes, and this program is a great way to encourage fellowship. They get to know each other and form friendships," she said.
The program is currently offered to seven senior-care centers in Plano, including nursing homes, independent-living facilities, residential care homes and assisted-living facilities.
The LLS volunteer trains by observing the current volunteers during their programs. When the new volunteer is ready, s/he is set up with a conveniently matching care home. More volunteers for Library Links with Seniors are needed because there are many care homes looking for programs like this.
