Frequently Asked Questions
What is Library Links with Seniors (LLS)? LLS serves senior citizens in Plano through volunteers who present programs to the residents of local care homes.
The programs are presented once a month for 30 - 60 minutes at each care home. The volunteers make up their own programs and often share among themselves. Programs are based on library materials; i.e. books, poetry, short stories, etc. Volunteers also meet monthly to share ideas, programs and challenges.

Who can participate? Anyone who likes reading and working with senior citizens would qualify for LLS. The volunteer first meets with Robin Popik, City of Plano Volunteer Resource Supervisor. The volunteer then meets with Susan Rhoads at Schimelpfenig Library to discuss the details of presenting LLS programs. Training involves observing active volunteers during their presentations. When the volunteer is ready, s/he begins presenting programs at a care home.
What commitment is involved? Volunteers commit to a six-month period of time to allow for observing the other volunteers and getting to know the residents at the new care home. Presentations can take as much time to prepare as the volunteer wants to put into them.
Is there a cost? No.
