Somthing bigger than catching fish happens Pearl Harbor happens. With Adam's Father on the USS Arizona and him in the way of bombs what will happen to him and his father? Can adam and Davi get over their diffrences and remain friends when America is at war with Japan? It had a lot of attitude and really expressed the main character's feelings. The character actually finds her innerself during the book. Readalikes: Any of the Princess Diaries books also by Meg, and Avalon HIgh also by Meg.  All I Want is Everything by Cecily Von Ziegesar Reviewer Rating: Its a sequel to the gossip girl books. I like it because of the humorous things they talk about, including thier lives. Readalikes: Other Gossip Girls Annie Between the States by Laura Elliot Reviewer Rating: Annie is a Virginian teenager whose father and all but two brothers have died. Her mother and older brother Lawrence run the farm and raise the horses. Her younger brother, when the war starts, is a strongheaded and fiery rebel. Her older brother fights for his home but does not entirely believe in the southern cause. When Annie meets Thomas Walker from Massachusetts, and sees his point of view, she does not know which side she should be on. The issues of slavery and freedom appear in shades of gray to her. The only freedom she knows is when she is riding on her horse, Angel's back. Once she finally realizes what she wants, she realizes that she must fight to keep it and to achieve it. Like many other classic heroines, Annie Sinclair must find her own path and follow it. Readalikes: -Pride and Prejudice; Annie and Elizabeth are pretty similar characters. -Trickster's Choice; Annie and Aly both have a choice to make and find that it becomes harder to make as time progresses. -Also any Ann Rinaldi books. She is masterful of the historical fiction genre.  Are You There God? It's Me Margaret by Judy Blume Reviewer Rating: A great story about a girl named Margaret who just moved to farbrook.She is happy to have friends there and be in a secret club. But whenever Margaret has a problem she talks about it with God. With all the new things going on in Margaret's life you never want to put down the book! Readalikes: Blubber by:Judy Blume, Camp Confidential Jenna's dilemna, Natalie's secret by Melissa J. Morgan and TTYL Lauren Myracle.    The Black Tower by Betsy Byars Reviewer Rating: A Black Tower is about a girl named Herculeah and her best friend named Meat, who volunteer to read a book to the elderly at the Hunt's House, also known as the Haunt House. They get caught in a mystery because Herculeah is curious about things that have happened there before. She finds out that the house has a black tower which was related to a famous murder in the past! Weird things are happening and weird people are coming into the house. She doesn't know who to trust and who not to! What will she do when murder and mystery ring her doorbell? Readalikes: Other books in this series are just as good as this one! Each of them are unique and have a different mystery that awaits you!  The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger Reviewer Rating: It's about Holden, a guy who hates life and the people in it because almost everyone he runs into appears to him as a "phony". He wasted his school years rebelling and not taking studies serious. he let people's behaviors get to him... His society turned him into a big fat liar and couldn't tell the truth even if his life depended on it... He ran into numerous promblems while getting kicked out from one school to the other...Even though it seems like Holden is immature and disconnected from the society and it's norms he finds a way to belong in the moment. Readalikes: I have honestly never read any book quite like A Catcher in the Rye...  Changeling by Delia Sherman Reviewer Rating: It's about a fairy changeling named Neef. The story takes place in "the in-betweens" of New York City. That's where the magical community lives. She breaks a fairy law and has to go on a dangerous quest. When a fairy law is broken in Central Park, the punishment is to loose your protection from the Wild Hunt. They are a group of demons, goblins, and monsters that will eat you. She has to complete three tasks to be welcomed back home. This book was so original and very descriptive. It was such and exciting journey!! Readalikes: Whispering to Witches, by Anna Dale  Child Called It by David Pelzer Reviewer Rating: A child is consantly abused by his mother for no reason while his brothers just stand by and watch. His mother tells him to tell the people at school lies about how he got various injuries. He goes as far as stealing food from the kids at school just to get some. Readalikes: Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Mah  City of Ember by Jeanne Du Prau Reviewer Rating: The air is too toxic to live above ground so people are forced to live in an underground city called Ember.Generations later the city is in trouble, there are food, clothing and light bulb shortages. To add a cherry to that bowl of ice cream the generators are going out(No more Power) two Teens struggle to help the people of the city survive. Readalikes: The People of Sparks BOOK after The City of Ember Clique Series by Lisi Harrison Reviewer Rating: I'm on the 3rd book of the series and it is AWESOME!!! The basic plot is a new girl movie into a popular girls guest house. The new girl has trouble fitting in, and the book just has a lot of teenage drama that I can relate to most of the time. 2nd review:  Reviewer Rating: Its about a group of teens who are very rich and stuckup, except Claire who is poor and ends up living with Massie.  Code Orange by Caroline Cooney Reviewer Rating: Mitty Blake, a 16 year old, street smart boy, living in uptown Manhattan apartments, hates school; that is until his biology teacher assigns a research progect on infectious diseases. Mitty soon gets interested in the age-old virus, smallpox. Everything is going well, until Mitty discovers old smallpox scabs hidden in some medical books. Soon, Mitty begins contracting the symptoms of the virus as he furthers his research. Mitty is conviced he has smallpox, so he must decide whether to save the people of New York from this horrible disease or save himself. But that choice is about to fall into the wrong hands. Will Mitty escape the dangers that haunt him, or will this virus end the game of life Mitty has been playing for 16 years? Find out in Caroline Cooney's exciting book, Code Orange. Ages 8 and up. Cooney, and Red Kayak, by Priscilla Cummings  Confessions of  Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella Reviewer Rating: Here is the beloved bestseller that first introduced Becky Bloomwood, the irrepressible one-woman shopping phenomenon whose hilarious adventures have kept readers coming back for more! In CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC, Becky lands a dream job, and a dreamy guy, and then, lands in a lot of hot water. Readalikes:Devil Wears Prada, Other Confession books by Sophie Kinsella  Darok 9 by H.J Ralles Reviewer Rating: Hank Havard, a scientist who lives on the moon, has discovered a compound, called SH33, that can reduce the body's need for water. Hank's "friend" turns out to be his enemy, and their is only one person Hank can turn to: his nephew. Readalikes: Darok 10, or any other H.J. Ralles book.  Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown Reviewer Rating: The book was amazing! Personally, I do not like to read a lot, but this book was captivating and it grabbed my attention right away. Not to mention, it's twists and turns; it is like a maze full of surprises. It also contains so much information about history and art, and it challenges the norms that society has set. However, it is a bit controversial; it goes against some very strong religious beliefs. Readalikes: Other books by Dan Brown include: Angels and Demons, Deception Point, and Digital Fortress. All are amazing books but none can match the bar that the Da Vinci Code has set! :) Second Review: Reviewer Rating:  This was a very interesting and intriguing book. It has different aspects of the historical paintings of Da Vinci, and presents different views about the Bible. The key to reading this book is to remember it is all fiction. Many religious views are twisted in this book, which makes for a great story that completely challenges you, but without knowing what your true values and beliefs are, you could come away questioning many things you know. I won't say anything about the plot, because spoiling the ending makes the book no fun, and it is without a doubt better than the movie. I would definitely recommend this exciting story, and anyone looking for a good read will definitely love this book! Readalikes: Probably anything else by Dan Brown, but I have not read any of his other works. Dead Reckoning: A Pirate Voyage with Captain Drake: by Laurie Lawlor Reviewer Rating: This book is about a boy Emmet who is taken by his cousin Captain Drake on to a pirate ship. He did not have anywear to go so he offered. On the Ship he meets some friends. One of his friends is named Diego. He speaks mostly spanish, which who has taught Emmet the language. His cousin Captain Drake is very fierce. He would kill anyone who got in his way, or broke any of his rules. He has hung many people. He went from ship to ship killing m,any people from any nation, trying to find the silver ship with all of the treasure. The Devil's Door Bell by Anthony Horowitz Reviewer Rating: As a thirteen year old child, Martin Opkins has never had a care in his life, until his parents are killed by a lightining strike. He is adopted by a old woman and is taken to a town called York. Slowy threats,murders, and disbelivings lead to the Devils Door- bell. Can Martin and his new Friend Richard escape, or will they lose to the believers o the Devils Door- bell? Readalikes: The Adventures of Alex Rider. No horror, but lots of action. Diva by Alix Flinn Reviewer Rating: In this superbly written book, Caitlin is a girl who struggles with her family and weight while trying to fulfill her dream, become a real diva. Caitlin is so excited when she makes it into the prestigious music school. She becomes a wonderful singer and shares her past and present struggles through her online journal. This is a wonderful book about a girl who keeps trying for her goal, no matter what the obstacles are.  Double Identity by Margaret Petersen Haddix Reviewer Rating: Double Identity is about a girl who is a clone from her sister who died in a car crash. Bethany, the cloned girl has to face the truth in a phone call from her mother who has gone hysterical crying. Read the book to find out about what happens to Bethany. Readalikes: Among the hidden and Turnabout by Haddix. Drivers Ed by Caroline Cooney Reviewer Rating: In this book Remy and Morgan are two ordinary teens who are taking Driver's Ed in their junior year. Remy and Morgan are in love and always get to go driving in the Driver's Ed car with their friend Lark. Lark decides that it would be fun to steal a sign and put it on her wall. So Remy and Morgan get Nickie Budie,the bad kid of the neighborhood, to drive them. They have a lot of fun until Nickie cuts off a stop sign at a dangerous intersection. What happens next is very sad. This book is a very good description of stupid things that stupid teenagers do in their everyday boring teen lives. Only read this book if you like guilt and dread.  Eagle Strike by Anthony Horowitz Reviewer Rating: Alex Rider is a boy working for a spy aqency. He is on a vaction when the vaction house blows up. He thinks it is the work of a super star and tries to investigate. Alex gets trapped and will die if he can't escape. Will he escape alive?   Earthborn by Sylvia Waugh Reviewer Rating: Have you ever felt like your parents come from a completely different planet? How would you feel if you found out that your parents really are from anohter planet. This book, Earthborn, by Sylvia Waugh, is a science fiction novel about just that, a semi ordinary girl named Nesta Gwynn finds out that her parents come from a different planet intirely, one called Ormingat. But when her parents are forced to leave for Ormingat in fear that they may have been discovered, they resist in leaving their daughter behind, but nesta refuses go to Ormingat. In the end her parents are faced with a choice, go to Ormingat and loose all ties with their daughter, or stay on Earth with their daughter and loose all ties with their homeland. Read and find out what they choose. Will Nesta be left to fend for herself on Earth? Readalikes: From this book, I am willing to say, that any other book by this author, Sylvia Waugh, must be a page turning.  Eldest by Christopher Paolini Reviewer Rating: Eragon is the new dragon rider in Algaesia accompanied by his new fire-breathing dragon Saphira. He is traveling to Ellesmera, the dwelling place of elves, to get training from the great dragon rider Oromis and his Golden Dragon Glaedr. Eragon has many enemies ahead including the evil King Galbatorix and even his brother Murtagh who are far more powerful than himself. Will he be prepared to face the evil forces? Readalikes: Eragon by Christopher Paolini, The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman, The Dark Hills Divide by Patrick Carman, Harry Potter by J K Rowling Second Review: Reviewer Rating: Eragon is just a regular orphaned farm boy in Carvahall, listening to the fantasies of Dragon Riders that village storyteller, Brom, spins. He doesn't belive the fairytales that he hears. That is, until one day, he finds a dragon egg. As it hatches and grows, their bond becomes stronger. Saphira is her name. But then, Eragon's world comes crashing down on him. After his uncle is murdered, he decides to flee. Brom discovers him and knows who he really is, the Dragon Rider that the world has been waiting for to free them form Galbatorix's tyranny. Brom and Eragon must travel to the secret location of the Varden, as Durza and the Urgals will attack. Brom dies along the way and reveals a stunning secret to his pupil. Murtagh, who also hates the tyranny, befriends Eragon and together they must rescue Arya, the elven maiden who started it all. What other secrets will be revealed? What tragedies will occur? Who will rise as the victor and who will admit a death as defeat? Readalikes: Eldest, Brisingr  Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine Reviewer Rating: It is a story about a girl who is cursed so she must obey everything she is told to do. It is a play on the story of Cinderella. Readalikes: Cinderella  Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin Reviewer Rating: Elsewhere is where fifteen-year-old Liz Hall ends up, after she has died. It is a place so like Earth, yet completely different. Here Liz will age backward from the day of her death until she becomes a baby again and returns to earth. But Liz wants to turn sixteen, get her driver's license, fall in love, go to college . . . How can she let go of the only life she has ever known and embrace a new one? Is it possible to grow up while getting younger? Readalikes: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer & New Moon by Stephanie Meyer  Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler Reviewer Rating: A girl finds out she is a mermaid and realizes her mom is being drugged not to believe her mer husband by another mermaid and she finds her dad facing sharks and the mean Neptune. Readalikes:Emily Windsnap and the Monster from the Deep, and Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist   Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card Reviewer Rating: This book is Ender's Game from a different perspective. It is about Bean who is smarter then Ender but not as able to command. It explains some of the loose ends or mysteries in Ender's Game, because they are mostly caused by Bean. It starts with Bean as a three year old in Rotterdam, then he goes to battle school and meets Ender. He helps Ender a lot. Then . . . You'll have to read the book (-: Readalikes: Ender's Game , Shadow of the Hegemon (The Sequel), Shadow Puppets (The Third Book), Shadow of the Giant (The Fourth Book)  Eragon by Christopher Paolini Reviewer Rating: This book is about a boy named Eragon who lives in the town of Carvahall. While hunting in the mountain range called the Spine, he finds a blue shiny stone, that isn't quite a stone. With the help of the stone/creature(s) associated with the stone, he helps rid the land of the evil king Galbatorix. This book is the first in a series. Readalikes: Eldest, the second in the series. Second Review:  Reviewer Rating: Eragon is a young boy who finds a girl dragon's egg. Eragon calls the dragon Saphira. With the help of a man who is called Brom, they are informed that there is a cruel king, Galbatorix, that wants all other dragon riders killed. Eragon is taught how to fight with his fists and with a sword, while learning a little bit of magic. He comes along several enemies, while learning more about himself and others. Readalikes: If there are people that love Eragon, they would also enjoy the second book in the series, Eldest. They should also read Dragon Rider, by Cornelia Funke. Family Trust by Amanda Brown Reviewer Rating: This book is about the ironic meeting of Becca Reinhart, a workaholic, and Edward Kirkland, a man who has never learned what work means. Brought together by adorable 4 year old Emily Stearns (whose parents died and left Emily to the two strangers), they immediately become friends, and soon find that, in the mist of Edward's forced engagement, that they can not live without each other. A definite must-read!! Readalikes: Legally Blonde is also a great book!!  Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Andersen Reviewer Rating: Fever 1793 was a good book full of strong emotions. It is about the biggest city in the USA at the time when it was struck by yellow fever. Thousand die well others flee from the city. A girl is struck by hard ship when her Grandfather dies and she loses her Mother. Will She make it thourgh or will she die? Forbidden City by William Bell Reviewer Rating: This Book is about a 17 year boy named Alexander Johnson who goes to the Forbidden City, Beijing China. He meets a Chinesse man who becomes his friend, Lao Xu. When some protests start to erupt in the Tian An Men Square Alex get split up from his father. Readalikes: The Outsiders, and Izzy Willy-Nilly  Frog Princess by E.D Baker Reviewer Rating: This book is about a girl named Emma. She is magically turned into a frog, because she kissed a persuasive frog. The she and the frog go on an adventure to turn her back into a human. Readalikes: Once Upon a Curse and Dragons Breath Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes A boy named Jerry Pye buys a young terrier (after hard work earning the money) that he names Ginger. The terrier he has set his eye on becomes his best friend..... until someone steals Ginger. This is a heart-warming story about the relationship between a boy and his dog. It just makes you want to read more and more of it.  Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins Reviewer Rating: Gregor the Overlander is about a boy named Gregor and his little sister Boots. Gregor wants nothing more than to find his father who dissapeared more than two years ago. One day thay fall into the Underland; a land with not only humans but also crawlers(big cockroaches),fliers (big bats), spinners (big spiders), and gnawers (big rats). Get this, they can all talk! The strangest thing of all is that they think Gregor ,a normal kid, is the warrior that they have been waiting for prophecised in the Prophecy of Gray. Though to Gregors utter disalike, they set of on a quest not only to save the Underland but to find Gregor's father. Will friendships hold and will they suceed? That is for you to find out. Readalikes: Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane Second Review: Reviewer Rating: The book is about a boy named Gregor and he is watching his little sister Boots. Boots falls down a hole and Gregor goes after her and they make friends w/ people called underlanders they have a great journey w/ the underlanders. Readalikes: Read the chronicles of Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins  Happy Kid by Gail Gauther Reviewer Rating: It's about a kid who is having a hard time in life. His mom finds him a book that she bribes him to read. He ends up always reading the book to help get his life a little better. Readalikes:Flipped and Big House are kind of like this book. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K Rowling Reviewer Rating: A monster at Hogwarts is petrifying all the students(muggleborns). It is told that the monster lives in the Chamber of Secrets. Harry finds a diary that is empty. Tom Riddle tell Harry what happned in his fifth year by using the diary and how Hagrid was caught. then Ginny is taken into the chamber itself. How will Harry get his best friends sister back? Find out by reading this great book! Readalikes: Eragon would probably compliment this book because they are fantasy books.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K Rowling Reviewer Rating: This book is a great novel for teens and adults. This book is the seventh and last in the series and is about a boy who survived an attack from the darkest wizard of all time and this boy, Harry Potter, is on a mission to kill the dark Lord. He goes through many obstacles but receives plenty of aid from friends and teachers and along with his nerve and courage, is able to overcome these obstacles to set a grand battle against the Dark Lord. This book really ties up any of the loose knots and is a great book. Readalikes: The other Harry Potter books must be read in order to read this seventh one and all seven of the books are spectacular! Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K Rowling Reviewer Rating: Harry is back at Hogwarts and is helping Profressor Dumbledore find the Hocruxes. Hermonie and Ron begin ignoring each other and it seems like to Harry that he's just caught in the middle. Harry also has his suspicions on Draco Malfoy. A book with many mysteries, that only Harry Potter will be able to solve. Readalikes: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Hawksong by Amelia Atwater- Rhodes Reviewer Rating: Learning to hate the serpiente, or the serpents, from the very second she was born, Danica Shardae, the soon to be ruler of the avian people, or bird people, must try to stop the bloody war that has claimed hundreds, if not thousands of her people. In the magical world of shape shifters, Zane Corbiana, the cobra that controls the serpiente, is the ultimate enemy. And Danica, a young adult herself, must go through with an absurd plan and sacrifice herself to stop her people's war. Readalikes: Sequels: Snakecharm , Falcondance, Wolfcry  The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien Reviewer Rating: This book is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who lead a peacefull life until the wizard Gandalf with a company of dwarves looking for an adventure came along ane morning around tea time. Not very long after Bilbo was talked into their quest to regain lost treasures. On his journey, Bilbo had to face evil Goblins, unfriendly Wargs (wolves), and giant spiders. Finaly, Bilbo alone had to face the great dragon Smaug who guarded the ancient treasure. Readalikes: 1. The Lord of the Rings Part I: The Fellowship of the Ring 2. The Lord of the Rings Part II: The Two Towers 3. The Lord of the Rings Part III: The Return of the King  The Homework Machine by Dan Gutman Reviewer Rating: It's about these 4th and  5th graders and one of the make a machine that will do their homework. The other 3 find out about it and swear that they won't leek the secret. It's a little intense.  Hoot by Carl Hiaasen Reviewer Rating: Hoot is about a boy who moves to Florida and discovers there is a whole new secret to explore. This boy, Roy, meets an athletic girl who is only athletic on the outside but is filled with emotions. Roy learns about this girl, her family, and her stepbrother, who currently is on a mission to stop the construction of a pancake house. But why? All because of some owls. In this fresh and exciting tale, these three kids learn about teamwork and what's important in life. Readalikes: Another book you might enjoy is Flush, written by Carl Hiaasen as well.  Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer Reviewer Rating: This book actually rates close to a 4.5 (but I had to put 4 because 4.5 wasn't an option :) This is a really nice book that stresses the importance of family in a 15 year-old, Hope's, life. She lives with her aunt and has learned the true meaning of sacrifice for she and her aunt are moving constantly. There is not a lot of steadiness or constants in her life, but each place she goes, she adds a new chapter to her life story. She keeps scrapbooks to remind her of the places and people she has encountered, pages of memories from Florida, New York, etc. She and her aunt Addie finally come to Wisconsin, the setting for 95% of the novel. Though in the back of the book it talks about her encountering politics (something which I personally didn't want to read about), Joan Bauer, the author, weaves it into the story line nicely. I would definitely encourage you to read this cute book :). Readalikes: On the "Comedy" bookmark in the library (in the Teen Section) there was another Joan Bauer book listed & when I went it wasn't there. That's how I stumbled upon "Hope Was Here". I'd Tell You That I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You by Ally Carter Reviewer Rating: This story is about a girl who is in an all-girl private school that trains them to become spies. With her mom being the Headmaster, much is expected of her. But when she is out on a practice mission with her class mates and she meets a boy, all that her school has kept secret from the world threatens to reveal itself as she goes out and secretly meets with the boy.  Inkheart by Cornelia Funke Reviewer Rating: In this thrilling fantasy, Meggie and Mo discover are thrust into the evil,crushing grip of Capricorn, a fugitive from a book that was brought into this world, accidentally, by Mo! Readalikes: The sequel, Inkspell. Second Review: Reviewer Rating: What happens when everytime you read aloud, the book comes alive? Cornelia Funke spins the wonderful tale of Meggie Folchart and her father Mo, a book "doctor." When an odd friend of his appears, the father and daughter leave their house suddenly to stay at Meggie's Aunt Elinor's place. One night, Mo is kidnapped and Meggie learns of her father's secret. Everytime that he reads aloud from any book, items or people from the book come out, but something from our world must replace it. Long ago, he read Capricorn, and Dustfinger who was the mysterious figure in the beginning, out of "Inkheart" and lost his wife is the process. Now, Capricorn wants Mo, whom he calls "Silvertongue" to read him all the riches from books. Suddenly, Meggie is thrust into a nightmare that she only finds in her storybooks. The thing is... Does she possess the same power? Readalikes: Inkspell, Inkdeath,  Island Girls and Boys by Rachel Hawthorne Reviewer Rating: It's about three friends who start out the last summer together looking for a fun time. One's boyfriends shows up and stays with them but the other do not like it. Then they meet some guys at there work. Readalikes: Tropical Kiss by: Jan Coffey or Caribbean Cruising by: Rachel Hawthorne   Janitor's Boy by Andrew Clements Reviewer Rating: In this book, Jack Rankin must attend the same school where his father is the janitor. Jack does not want anyone to know that his father is a janitor, and so he tries to steer clear of him. But one day, Jack's Dad says "Hi son," and everyone hears. After that, all the kids in his class start to tease him. Now, Jack is out for revenge.  Julia's Kitchen by Brenda Ferber Reviewer Rating: This book is about a young girl named Julia who lost her mother and sister in a house fire. Because she loses about everything in the fire except her dad, who is still shaken up and has a bad connection with her daughter. Julia finds out things to do to get over the death of her family members and finds something toatlly new and rewarding.    Just Another Day In My Insanely Real Life by Barbara Dee Reviewer Rating: This book is about a girl who has a older sister and her younger brother. She is faced with many problems ever since a hoorible thing happened. Khaki Wings by Milton Dank Reviewer Rating: This book is about an English school boy who decides to enlist with the Royal Air Corp when war breaks out in France. At first he is exicted about going to war, but soon realizes there is nothing good about it afterall. Readalikes: Red Flight Two (The sequel)  To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee Reviewer Rating: This book, is a good readable, leisure-type book. Any person who is interested in reading a book including law, murder, and slavery debates, shoulld engage in this book as soon as possible. It is exciting and never lets you down. A kid, Scout, and her older brother, Jem, live in the make-believe city of Maycomb, Alabama, where they are going through a series of events leading to their adulthood. One, begginging with Boo Radley, and then the burning of Mrs. Maudie's house, soon after the incident with Mrs. Dubose, and last of the trial of Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson is black man convicted of rape of a white girl. In court is it the mockingbird or the lying whites (Ewells) who win the case? Readalikes: For little kids I think part one relates a lot to Maniac Magee, which is a very sweet book. Kira Kira by Cynthia Kadohata Reviewer Rating: This book is about a Japanese American family during the 1950's and is probably one of my fav books - ;). In reality they move from the small Japanese American community in Iowa to the neighborhood of Georgia with a small group of Japanese Americans.  During their stays the oldest daughter gets very sick and soon changes their life forever.The story is seen through the eyes of the middle daughter. Readalikes: Weedflower- also created by Cynthia Kadohata  The Lambkins by Eve Bunting Reviewer Rating: On the way home from an art show, Kyle Wilson,14, finds himself helping old lady with bright red hair fix her flat tire. She tells him that the the spare and the jack are in the back of the trunk. That's all Kyle can remember of that night when he finds himself waking up in a doll house. There he meets Mac, Tanya, and little Lulu living in this shrunken jail. Mrs. Shepherd, the lady who kidnapped them, says she would never hurt them, but the four lambkins hate her anyways. They are always thinking up plans to escape, but what will work? They are only about ten inches high, so what can they pull off? Will they ever escape her, or will they stay small forever? Readalikes: The Meanest Doll in the World  Leonardo's Shadow by Christopher Grey Reviewer Rating: This amazing book is about a young pre-teen boy who is found half-dead after being chased by a mob for "stealing." He is found by the great Leonardo Da Vinci, and is rasied as a servant. Throughout the book, there is never a time where you get the solution right. It's the ultimate definition of "Great Fiction!" :) Readalikes: Leonardo Da Vinci, Renaissance books  The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan Reviewer Rating: The Lightning Thief is about a boy named Percy Jackson who finds out that he is a half-blood and is a son of one of the Greek Gods.When his mom leaves Percy at a camp especially for half-bloods so that he may be protected from horrible monsters, Percy is assigned a quest along with 2 of his daring friends in which he is blamed of stealing a lightning bolt from one of the Gods. In this spell-bounding book, filled with humor and action, Percy is up to the challenge of proving his innocence of stealing and to battle his way to meet his father. Readalikes: If you like this book you should also try the Sea of Monsters; which is also in this series. 2nd review:  This book is a book that makes greek mythology come to life. Literally! It is full of humor and suprise. You'll never want to put the book down and you'll be crazy for more. It is about this ordinary kid named Percy who always gets in trouble and is always changing schools. Then he goes on a field trip and his life changes forever. Percy gets whisked away to camp where he finds out that he is a demi-god and his father is a greek god. He goes on a quest to save his father's reputation and himself from the spite of Zeus. Who is his father and what has he done to anger the gods? Read to find out. 3rd review:  It is intriuging as Percy is whisked away on an adventure. It will find you craving for more after reading it and you will be rereading it, I promise.
