It’s easy. If you’ve never participated in a Census, 2010 is a great year to start. The 2010 Census will be the shortest form ever with just 10 questions. The questions gather basic demographic data that show how Plano has changed in the last 10 years.
It’s important. More than 180 federal programs factor census counts into the formulas they use to disperse more than $400 billion through Medicaid, highway repair programs, low-cost school lunch programs, assistance to low income households and more. The city, county and school districts rely on this data, along with many non-profit organizations which provide social services to our community.
Census data are used to determine locations for retail stores, schools, hospitals, new housing developments and other community facilities. Boundaries for state and local legislative and congressional districts are established based on Census data as well.
It’s safe. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual’s responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities.
Please complete and return your census form in 2010. It’s safe. It’s easy. It’s important.
