About our Department
The Planning Department manages a variety of activities and programs ranging from new development to redevelopment, to assisting with preserving neighborhoods and structures, to maintaining a wealth of mapping and demographic information.
The Planning Department is divided into three divisions:
Planning
The Planning Division oversees zoning and land development plan review, demographics, long range planning, heritage preservation, and various special studies. The Planning Division provides staff support for the 2010 Census Complete Count Committee, Planning & Zoning Commission, and the Heritage Commission.
Community Services
The Community Services Division works to preserve Plano neighborhoods and improve the quality of life of residents by operating housing assistance, day labor, and neighborhood enhancement programs, as well as managing grant funds for non-profit housing and human service agencies.
GIS
GIS is a computer system designed to do mapping and mapping analysis. The GIS Division maintains mapping information and develops interactive mapping for the website as well as provides mapping and GIS support services for city staff.
