Robert W. Buffington Community Services Grant

The City of Plano sets aside set aside $1 general fund monies per capita to be distributed as the Buffington Community Services Grant (BCSG). Application for the BCSG is through the  Consolidated Grant Process.

General Guidelines:
  


The City of Plano recognizes the need for community services within the City and, for this reason, makes funds available for social services.  The Buffington Community Services Grant (BCSG) supplies funds for programs that provide short-term, urgent economic assistance or care services, offering immediate relief of crisis impacting the physical and/or mental health of Plano residents.  Funding from BCSG must be spent between October 1st through September 30th of every fiscal year. The grant may not exceed 50% of the organization’s annual budget.

The City Council approved BCSG Resolution details the grant Objectives, Requirements, and Ineligible Activities. The Community Relations Commission has approved a Required Verification of Residency Process Map that all BCSG agencies must use. Also, Funding Standards have been created for those agencies seeking to provide financial assistance to clients.



Applicant Eligibilty: 


Organizations that submit an application must meet the following criteria:

A.  Proposed use of funds must benefit residents of the City of Plano.

B.  Must be a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, in good standing with the State of Texas, and  must have an active Board of Directors in compliance with IRS Section 501(c)(3).

C. If previously funded by the City of Plano, must have successfully fulfilled all prior contractual obligations, or explain reasons for non-compliance.

D. Must have been operating for at least three years prior to the application deadline.

E. Property taxes must be paid up to date.

Commission 


Community Relations Commission
The Community Relations Commission serves as a hearing board to address significant issues as directed by Council. The Commission versees the Community Development Block Grant and the Community Service Grants. They also review and make recommendations regarding significant community problems impacting the quality of life.
