The
Senior Citizens Police Academy is sponsored by the Plano Police
Department and is designed to educate the senior citizens of Plano on
the operations of their Police Department. This is accomplished through
a series of lectures and hands-on activities.
The
Academy is designed to give senior citizens an in-depth view of the
everyday functions of their police department. Topics covered include
department philosophy, recruiting, ethics, training, 911 operations,
narcotics enforcement, crimes against persons, burglary investigations,
Emergency Response Team (SWAT), firearms, Neighborhood policing and K-9
policing.
Additionally,
crime prevention programs relating to senior issues are addressed.
Personal and property safety, fraud, telemarketing fraud are discussed
and "Safety Bingo" is part of a fraud presentation.
The
Academy is led by the Crime Prevention Unit and held annually. All the
lectures and activities are taught by Police Officers whose current
assignments are directly involved in the policing activities covered in
their segment of the Academy.
This
is a free 8-week course open to all of Plano's Senior Citizens. Call
