Youth Police Academy

Thank you for your interest in the Plano Police Department’s Youth Police Academy. The Youth Police Academy is one of a very few programs of its kind in the United States. Our hope is that of those students attending the program, a stronger rapport with the Police Department will be established, as well as, a greater understanding of mutual challenges that face todays youth and police.

The Plano Youth Police Academy began in the Fall of 1992. Since its inception there have been 26 sessions graduating over 660 teens.  Each week a different activity will take place from self defense and handcuffing to learning to lift fingerprints. Students will have an opportunity to ride on patrol with a police officer.

There is no cost to participate in the Youth Police Academy.  September 27, 2006 marks the beginning of a new Academy session.

Any Plano student whether public, private or home school is welcome to attend. As long as the following requirements are met;

1. Students must be in 8th through 12th grade.

2. Students must maintain passing grades in all classes which comply with No Pass/No Play.

3.  Attendance is required. If it is necessary to miss a day, students are to advise/contact their School Liaison Officer.

4. Generally, no more than two absences will be excused. Excessive absences will result in dismissal from the Academy.

5. Students will comply with the Plano Independent School District Dress Code with the exception that no shorts (male or female) will be allowed. Students are reminded of the professional environment in which they will attend classes and should dress accordingly.

6. Students will comply with all rules of the Tri-City Academy and will conduct themselves in a business like manner at all times.

The application and parental consent forms can be picked up from any school liaison officer, or at Plano Police Crime Prevention Unit.  If you have any questions please contact Officer Parker at 972 941-7401. Click here for application.
