Officer Rick McDonald began working for the Plano Police Department in March, 1980. During his tenure with the Department he has served as a Field Training Officer assigned to the Patrol Service Division and as one of the Department’s first School Resource Officers assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit. In 1984, Officer McDonald joined the Canine Unit and served as the Lead Canine Officer until 2006 when he was appointed as the Public Information Officer for the Plano Police Department.
Officer McDonald is also the Officer in Charge of the Plano Police Honor Guard and has been awarded numerous awards and commendations including: Officer of the Year, Meritorious Service, Civic Achievement, Lifesaving, Marksmanship, and Chief’s Unit Award.
Officer McDonald holds Instructor and Firearms Instructor Certifications issued by the Texas Combined Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). Officer McDonald has also earned a Master Police Officer Certification from the State of Texas
