Citizens now have two online locations to search for registered sex offenders.  The Texas Department of Public Safety Sex Offender site can be accessed at:  https://records.txdps.state.tx.us/.

The Plano Police Department has partnered with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office in deploying the new OffenderWatch program.  It can be accessed from the front page of our website or at:  http://www.sheriffalerts.com/cap_main.php?office=54336.

The DPS website lists registered offenders throughout the state of Texas, while the Collin County site focuses on registered individuals who live in Collin County.   The same individuals and information is contained in both sites.  OffenderWatch also allows citizens to receive alerts and notifications whenever a registered offender moves into or out of the area.  The alerts are customizable and are a free service to the public.

Who Must Register?
Convicted sex offenders are required to register with local law enforcement in the jurisdiction where they live. The names and addresses of Sex Offenders who register with the Plano Police Department are provided to the Texas Department of Public Safety, which maintains a public database of names, crimes and addresses, and are also entered in the OffenderWatch.com database.

During registration the offender must provide information that includes, but is not limited to, name and address, a color photograph, and the offense for which he/she was convicted or adjudicated. Registered sex offenders are required to periodically report to the Plano Police Department to verify the accuracy of their registration information and to promptly report certain changes in the information as those changes occur. A sex offender who fails to comply with any registration requirement is subject to felony prosecution.
