| The Plano Police Department Traffic Unit's Public Education Officer, M. Susan Jackson, has the responsibility of increasing the public awareness of traffic laws, education of drivers, and increasing the safety of our citizens on the roadways through education. Courses instructed by Officer Jackson include "In The Blink of An Eye" a red light awareness class and The Seat Belt Class. The Heed the Warning Class focuses on the increasing number of red light accidents and the potential for serious injury in these types of violations. This class offers suggestions on how to improve your driving skills in order to lessen the chance of being involved in a red light accident. "Heed the Warning" includes a video, lecture and class discussion and runs approximately 1 and 1/2 hours, although the class can be tailored to meet the needs of a particular group. The Seat Belt Class runs approximately 1 hour and includes lecture, class discussion and a video. The Seat Belt class addresses such topics as the laws themselves and the reasons that the State has become so involved in enforcing the Seat Belt Laws; i.e. costs to the State and public as a whole. New courses are being developed to address teen driving, DWI, etc. Officer Jackson is available to speak to groups of any size on various traffic topics including, but not limited to red light enforcement and seatbelt safety.
