Now under the umbrella of the Parks and Recreation Department, the award-winning Volunteers in Plano (VIP) Program continues to encourage citizen participation in municipal government. Representing the rich diversity of Plano’s population, volunteers come from all walks of life and age groups. They are able to perform functions that might be deferred or not implemented because of a lack of manpower or resources. They contribute skills, expertise, fresh ideas and objective viewpoints. In this time of a depressed economy their value is never of more importance in carrying out municipal services. Mission Statement The City of Plano’s Volunteers are committed to encouraging community participation and the comprehensive coordination of volunteers to enhance municipal services and community needs. Program objectives - Develop a reliable and varied skill network of human resources to support the delivery of services to the community.
- Provide opportunities for all segments of the community to participate in local government.
- Bring together volunteer resources to enhance and augment municipal services including, but not limited to, the following areas: recreation and leisure services, literacy improvement, and office assistance.
- Encourage City employees to become part of the volunteer efforts throughout the community.
