Answer questions and show cats for visits. Category Cat. Designation- High animal contact/High public contact Hours- Tuesday –Friday 4 hour shifts from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Saturday & Sunday 4 hour shifts from 10:00am to 4:00pm 2 nd Friday of each month. 2 hour shift from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Dog Adoption Enhancement Specialist Improving a dog’s chance of adoption by spending time with the animal outside of the kennel and introducing the dog to the visiting public. Category-Dog. Designation- High animal contact/High public contact Hours- Saturday & Sunday. 2 hour shift from 10:00am to 12:00pm, 2 hour shift from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and 2 hour shift from 2:00pm to 4:00pm Dog Walker To provide exercise and bathroom time to the adoptable dogs so that their stay at the shelter is more comfortable. Dogs are leashed walk one at a time in designated areas on the shelter grounds. Category-Dog Designation- High animal contact/Low public contact Hours- Tuesday –Friday AM 2 hour shifts from 9:00am to Noon PM 2 hour shifts from 1:00pm to 5:30pm Saturday & Sunday AM 2 hour shift from 8:00am to 10:00am and PM 2 hour shift from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Front Lobby Assistant Greeting and assisting visitors as they enter the shelter, answering general questions, and making sure the lobby is clean and organized. Category-Administrative. Designation- Low animal contact/High public contact. Hours- Any 4 hour shift Monday through Friday between 9:00am and 6:00pm and Saturday 10:00AM TO 4:00PM. Front Office Assistant Assist with filing, label envelopes, and general office work. Category-Administrative Designation- Low animal contact/Low public contact. Hours- Any 4 hour shift Monday through Friday between 9:00am and 6:00pm and Saturday 10:00AM TO 4:00PM. Kennel Attendant To ensure that all the adoptable dogs have a clean place to stay. To assist the public by bringing adoptable dogs into the designated visit areas and answering general questions. To provide comfort to ease stress and sanitation to cut down on illness. Category-Care & Comfort Designation- Low animal contact/Low public contact. Hours- Tuesday through Friday. 4 hour shifts from 9::00AM to 6:00pm Saturdays & Sundays 4 hour shift from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Pre-Op Animal Care Improving a dog or cat’s comfort level and chance of adoption by light grooming and bathing one day prior to the spay or neuter procedure. You select either dogs or cats. Category-Care & Comfort Designation-High animal contact/Low public contact. Hours- Monday. 4 hour shifts between 9:00am and 6:00pm. Wednesday. 4 hour shifts between 9:00am and 6:00pm. Small Groups Volunteers (minimum age of 18 years old) are needed to clean kennels and assist with miscellaneous tasks on weekends. Saturdays & Sundays 7am-4pm. To sign up contact Corina Rodriguez at 972-941-7617 or email her at corinar@plano.gov Animal Shelter Projects Drives, Donations or Fund Raisers Everyday needs include: - Paper towels, ammonia, or laundry detergent, heavy duty lawn/leaf bags, small rugs, cotton balls, Isopropyl alcohol, bottled water and spray water bottles.
- IAM's adult dry dog food, IAM's puppy food wet and dry, IAM's adult dry cat food, IAM's kitten food wet and dry (kitten & puppy food greatest need is in spring and summer) or Tidy Cat kitty litter (non-clumping) - unopened bags only please.
- Dog, puppy, cat, and kitten toys to bring joy to the animals, shirt boxes for litter pans, flea products, treats for dogs and cats, American rawhide chew bones, washable toys for dogs and cats, cat beds (email debbien@plano.gov for sizes), bandanas for dogs, LARGE balls for the dogs, or igloo style dog houses
Specialty items needed are: - Mobile Adoption Van or Sponsors

Fun to create: - Create and decorate paperweight rocks
- Make beds from fabrics & quilting materials for dogs and cats, email debbien@plano.gov for sizes
Raise funds to donate or to buy donated goods by: - A bake sale or lemonade stand.
- A craft stand, get family or friends to make their favorite crafts and sell them.
- Have a birthday party where your guests brings presents from the shelter donation list.
Donations, whether monetary or goods or services are always appreciated! Every contribution helps a homeless animal and is tax deductible. Fostering A foster parent provides a temporary home for kittens, puppies, dogs, or cats to address a temporary medical or mild behavioral issue prior to the animal being placed up for adoption. The devotion, care, and socialization given during this time greatly increase the animal’s chance to be adopted by a loving home. Training is available, no previous experienced required. (must provide documentation) • Must have written approval from landlord if renting. • All adults in the residence must sign foster agreement. • Must agree to an initial in home inspection and random drop in visits at any reasonable hour.
