Volunteers In Plano Celebrating 25 Years
of Sterling Volunteers
In
August 1982 program founder and former City Manager David Griffin,
with the support of Florence Shapiro, who was
then serving on Council along with other Council members, were able to bring
the vision of volunteerism to life here in Plano.
By
May 1983, the City was actively recruiting volunteers for 30 positions to serve
nine departments. That year 3,372 volunteer hours were donated equaling a
monetary value of $27,290. Compare that to this past year 2007, when 84,551
volunteer hours were donated equaling $1,462,932. 25 times the hours and 53
times the value!
VIP’s
contribution goes far beyond mere dollars and cents. We band together with
staff to give the most precious commodity, TIME! The City of Plano would like to thank every volunteer for
their dedication and hard work.
