The City of Plano celebrates tree planting with an annual Arbor Day
event on the first Saturday of November. Fall is the ideal time of year
to plant trees in North Texas giving trees the advantage of developing
their root systems well before the hot weather arrives the next summer.
Free tree seedlings are available for people who
attend Arbor Day. We also have free activities for kids such as making
leaf necklaces, potting different tree seeds to take home, making tree
ring cookies, using crayons to make leaf and bark rubbings, and Arbor
Day Leaf Twister.
We typically have Arbor Day in
a different location every year. We plant a tree at each location and
invite the public to lend a hand.

Kids all know that Trees are Terrific"
Sometimes grownups forget, and that's just horrific.
Trees are terrific there's no doubt about it.
To help them remember you'll just have to shout it.
When I point my finger in your direction
Shout Trees are Terrific" with strength and conviction.
The first one's for practice; say it loud and clear,
'Trees are Terrific!' What? I couldn't hear.
Trees are Terrific! Let's try it again.
Trees are Terrific! That was fantastic! It's time to begin.
Trees clean the air of pollution and dust.
Trees are Terrific! Plant them, you must.
Trees shade the playground, street and parking lot.
Trees are Terrific! They cool you when it's hot.
Trees reduce storm runoff into our streams.
Trees are Terrific! They keep our water clean.
Trees make our neighborhoods a nice place to live.
Trees are Terrific, for the beauty they give.
Climb up a tree and play in its leaves.
Trees are Terrific! 'Cause they put you at peace.
Meet a friend under a tree. I know it sounds sappy
But, Trees are Terrific, because they make you so happy.
Trees are so nice, everyone should have one.
Trees are Terrific, so go out and plant one!
Every year in order to observe Arbor Day, we have the Mayor sign a Proclamation. Click here to see the most recent Arbor Day Proclamation.
