Plano Senior Recreation Center is Closed for Renovations
The center is temporarily closed for renovation and expansion. For up-to-date information on classes and trips offered by senior center staff, please check the latest issue of the Plano Recreation Catalog or contact the Plano Senior Recreation Center staff at 972-941-7250. Trips will continue, but are now departing from the Oak Point Park Nature & Retreat Center, 5901 Los Rios Blvd. The Wellness Center for Older Adults is fully operational in a trailer located in front of the Senior Recreation Center.

Plano Senior Recreation Center – a new look and a new name!
The Plano Senior Recreation Center will reopen with a new look and new name! The center will continue to tailor its programs to adults 50+ however, the center will be called Sam Johnson Recreation Center for Adults 50+. The name honors Plano’s Sam Johnson, decorated war hero and native Texan who ranks among the few Members of Congress to fight in combat. During his 29-year career in the U.S. Air Force, Representative Johnson flew combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  He endured nearly seven years as a Prisoner of War in Hanoi, including 42 months in solitary confinement.  Following his distinguished military career, Sam established a home-building business in North Dallas and served in the Texas State legislature.

2018 Plano Senior Center Renovations
Expansion and renovation of the center continues. Pavement and lighting for the expansion of the north parking lot is complete. Steel has been erected for the new cardio and weight room, the new group fitness room, and new restrooms. Connection of the expansion to the existing building continues and the expansion of the dining room and kitchen is progressing. Reconfiguration of the Wellness Center for Older Adults and staff offices, as well as the three classrooms within the center has taken place. Design of a new monument style sign at the street entrance is complete.
