Plano Senior Recreation Center Renovation Updates
6/1/16 -  The architects from Smith Group JJR are continuing the process of preparing detailed plans for the project. You may see representatives in the building at various times collecting measurements and photographs - data needed to prepare documents for the expansion. The City has hired Byrne Construction Services to provide Construction Manager at Risk services. Byrne will oversee the bidding process for various contractor services. Based on the current schedule we expect construction to begin this fall.

1/28/16 - The City of Plano is preparing to hire a Construction Manager-at-Risk (CMAR) for the construction of the Plano Senior Recreation Center expansion and renovation. The CMAR will perform pre-construction and construction services working with the City staff, City consultants and the selected Architect. A CMAR is an entity that assumes the risk for construction, rehabilitation, alteration, or repair of a facility at the contracted price as a general contractor and provides consultation to the City regarding  construction during and after the design of the facility.

The CMAR will perform typical and complete Construction Management  services in conjunction with the design and construction/renovation. The CMAR will work with the City entities, staff and any appropriate consultants. The City of Plano has contracted with SmithGroupJJR, Inc., the architects to design the Project. The Senior Center Expansion and Renovation is expected to expand the size of the center, as well as renovate the existing facility, addressing additional fitness, programming, dining, office and support areas, parking lots and site work. The project budget is $7 million.

The Plano Senior Recreation Center will remain open and operational during the construction period.

8/18/15 - The recreation service manager along with some of the Plano Senior Center staff were introduced to the project managers from SmithGroupJJR, Inc., the architect firm who is handling the expansion and renovation of the center. Results from the Plano Senior Recreation Center survey, along with a list of seniors’ suggestions compiled at the July 17 AARP meeting, have been provided to the representatives. Representatives will start the process by gathering information on how seniors currently utilize the center, by taking measurements, and by obtaining information regarding limitations due to the floodplain area in the park.
