City of Plano Lifeguards Prove Skills in Competition
City of Plano lifeguards maintain skills in many lifesaving and rescue
procedures through regular drills and exercises. Each summer the City of
Plano sends select lifeguards to competitions to prove those skills and
participate in friendly competition with lifeguards from around the state.
The Texas Super Guard Competition was held in College Station in early July.
Events challenged skills in first aid, water rescue, CPR and physical
fitness. Six guards participated on the Plano team. Andy Erlemann brought
home first place with Travis Merritt placing second. Other staff members
participating included Jill Keesee, Michael Bird, Laury Lacombe, and Brian
Schilder.
The American Red Cross “Texas Open,” a team competition, was held July 16
and 17 in Houston. With seven events, Plano placed third in Spinal
Management and Scanning; third in CPR; fourth in Passive Victim Relay;
fourth in Rescue Tube Relay; seventh in Passive Victim Resuscitation Rescue;
eleventh in the Written Test; and twelfth in First Aid. Team members were
Travis Merritt, Jill Keesee, Nick Thompson, Brian Schilder, Ashley Carter,
Richard Bayyouk, and Christopher Elder.
