Emergency ListServ Email Notification Activated
The City of Plano has inaugurated an Emergency Email Notification, offered
through a voluntary ListServ subscription.
The brainchild of Dr. Susan Helt, the ListServ service will enable persons
to subscribe to emergency notifications from the City, another valuable tool
in getting emergency information quickly and directly into citizens’ homes.
The concept was developed following the City’s recent activation of its
Water Emergency Plan, including banning of outdoor watering, when a major
water supply line from the North Texas Municipal Water District ruptured.
“Overall, Plano did an excellent job of communicating the emergency to our
citizens, utilizing everything from television, newspaper and web mediums to
signage along major highways,” said Dr. Susan Helt, Public Information
Director. “We always search for ways to do a better job, however, and any
emergency situation we encounter always gives us the opportunity to improve
upon what we are doing.”
Through the ListServ, persons may register an email address where
notifications will be sent in the event an emergency situation arises within
Plano.
“This will be a dedicated service used only to convey emergency
information,” said Dr. Helt. “The only time it will be activated is when an
emergency occurs affecting Plano, or when we initiate testing of our
emergency systems, at noon the first Wednesday of each month. Subscription
to the site is secure, with no addresses given out to other agencies or sold
for advertising.”
