Plano Emergency Call Center Begins Accreditation Process
“A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law
Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive August 27, 2005 to examine
all aspects of the City of Plano, Public Safety Communications (PSC) policy
and procedures, management, operations, and support services,” Ron Timmons,
PSC Director, announced today.
PSC serves as Plano’s primary emergency call center, receiving 9-1-1 calls
and dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and Police as needed.
CALEA is PSC’s first attempt to become accredited through any agency.
“Verification by the team that Plano Public Safety Communications meets the
Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to
gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of Communications
professional excellence,” he said.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the
community are invited to offer comments during a public phone in session.
The public may call (972) 941-7952 on August 28, 2005 between 1 p.m. and 5
p.m.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s
ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is
available for viewing at the Plano Municipal Center at the Action Center
(round reception desk), 1520 Avenue K. You may also make an appointment to
review the standards with the Public Safety Communications Department by
contacting Susan Carr at (972) 941-7934.
Persons wishing to offer written comments about Plano Public Safety
Communications ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested
to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA),
10306 Eaton Place, Suite 320, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2201.
