Plano Seeks Citizen Input for Emergency Planning
On Tuesday, August 30, the City of Plano will host a public meeting on the
development of a Hazard Mitigation Plan. City officials will collaborate
with citizens to identify natural and manmade hazards and to determine what
actions can be taken to reduce the impact on the community. The meeting is
from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Training Room A of the Plano Municipal Center,
1520 K Avenue.
Key areas to be addressed are reducing the risk of loss of life and loss of
property. Hazards to be discussed include: droughts, wildland fires, hail
storms, floods, hurricanes, lightning strikes, tornadoes, high winds,
thunderstorms, severe winter storms/ice storms, extreme summer heat, poor
air quality, stream bank erosion, landslides, expansive soils, dam failures,
levee failures, terrorism and other hazards of concern to Plano residents.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) predicts during the
next 30 years the North Central Texas region will be hit by an estimated 200
tornadoes, 2,000 hail events, 100 significant storms and numerous floods,
droughts and other disasters. Information gather at the meeting will be
instrumental in the City of Plano reducing its vulnerability to these
events. In critical times such as these, community support is vital;
therefore citizens are encouraged to attend this meeting.
If you cannot attend the meeting, information about the plan and an online
hazard survey will be available at
www.plano.gov.
Questions about the plan should be addressed to C.J. Howard, Assistant
Emergency Management Coordinator, (972) 941-7604 or
cjhoward@plano.gov.
